Expert Workshop on the Conceptual Framework for IPBES

International Expert Workshop on the Conceptual Framework Workshop for IPBES will be held from 25 - 26 August 2013, in Cape Town, South Africa, convened by the IPBES Multidisciplinary Expert Panel (MEP) and co-hosted by the Governments of South Africa, the United Kingdom and with additional support from the Government of Japan.
The objective of this workshop is to share amongst the experts and the stakeholders the work on the conceptual framework of IPBES to date and to provide inputs to the development of a draft conceptual framework for the Platform, that effectively addresses the objectives, functions and relevant operating principles of the Platform and the relationship among them, drawing on a range of sources and activities including the inputs received from the workshop and the work on the knowledge systems. The outcome of this workshop will form the basis of a recommendation by the MEP of a conceptual framework for adoption by the Plenary at its second session scheduled to take place in Antalya, Turkey, from 9 - 16 December 2013.

Expert workshop on Indigenous and Local Knowledge Systems to IPBES

The International Expert and Stakeholder Workshop on the Contribution of Indigenous and Local Knowledge Systems to IPBES: Building Synergies with Science, will be held from 9 - 11 June 2013, in Tokyo, Japan. Convened by the IPBES Multidisciplinary Expert Panel and hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Japan, the workshop is being co-organised by UNESCO and UNU. The objectives of the workshop are to examine and identify procedures and approaches for working with indigenous and local knowledge systems in the framework of IPBES; and to review and assess possible conceptual frameworks for the work of IPBES that are based on or accommodate indigenous and local knowledge systems and worldviews. The workshop is part of the on-going intersessional process leading up to the second session of the Platform's Plenary (IPBES-2), where the outcomes of this workshop will be presented for further consideration.
